Critical Scholarship in International Law

This early career workshop was convened by Professor Anne Orford to coincide with the visit of Professor Pål Wrange (Stockholm) and Professor Martti Koskenniemi (Helsinki) to the Laureate Program in International Law. The workshop explored critical approaches to scholarship in international law across different fields and different places of international law. It enabled sustained discussion and reflection on how methodological questions common to critical scholars arise in participants’ own projects. The workshop took the format of each participant having their work presented by another, with time to respond to the presentation before opening for discussion by the group.

The workshop brought together doctoral and postdoctoral scholars and lecturers either working with the Laureate Program or on projects that share the methodological, theoretical, substantive, or critical concerns of the Laureate project. Participants included Matilda Arvidsson (Gothenburg), Luis Bogliolo (Melbourne), Michelle Burgis-Kasthala (Australian National University), Madelaine Chiam (La Trobe), Sara Dehm (University of Technology Sydney), Kathryn Greenman (Amsterdam), Andrea Leiter (Melbourne), Marnie Lloyd (Melbourne) Sebastián Machado (Melbourne), Cait Storr (Melbourne), Ntina Tzouvala (Melbourne) and Fabia Veçoso (Melbourne).
