Anne-Charlotte Martineau

Anne-Charlotte Martineau is a tenured researcher (French National Center for Scientific Research CNRS) and works at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Her research aims to revisit the role of (international) law and lawyers in the establishment, justification and maintenance of slavery. She is particularly interested in looking at the legal discourse and mechanisms through which the French Empire managed to rule over foreign territories and populations. Anne-Charlotte completed her PhD at the University of Helsinki and Sorbonne University, writing a thesis about the debate on the fragmentation of international law. She also has a LLM in International Law and a LLM in Legal Theory.
